About The Spillmans

Hi, I’m Dominique. And before anything else… I’m a mom.

I’m a mom to an incredible little boy who changed my life in ways I never could have imagined.

But if I’m being honest…
my journey didn’t start with confidence.
It started with questions, fear, and a whole lot of uncertainty.

There was a time when I didn’t know what to do…

I remember noticing that my son wasn’t communicating the way other children his age were.

He wasn’t talking.
He wasn’t expressing his wants or needs.
And as a mom, that feeling… it’s hard to explain.

You start questioning everything.

“Am I doing enough?”
“Am I missing something?”
“What if something is wrong?”

I went from doctor to doctor, searching for answers.
Sitting in waiting rooms.
Filling out paperwork.
Listening to opinions that didn’t always feel clear or comforting.

Until one day… we got the diagnosis.

Autism.

And in that moment… everything changed.

There was fear.
There was denial.
There were tears.

But there was also something else…

A decision.

I decided that no matter what, I was going to advocate for my son.
I was going to learn everything I could.
And I was going to give him the tools he needed to thrive.

What came next was a journey I never expected…

Therapy appointments became a part of our everyday life.

Speech therapy.
Occupational therapy.
Developmental therapy.
Feeding therapy.
ABA therapy.
IEP meetings.

And in between all of that…

There were hard days.

Days with meltdowns.
Days where he felt overwhelmed and didn’t know how to regulate his emotions.
Days where communication felt impossible.
Days where I felt exhausted, frustrated, and honestly… lost.

There were moments where I watched him struggle to express himself.
Moments where I just wanted to take his feelings away and carry them for him.

And if you’re a parent on this journey…
you know exactly what I mean.

But there were also breakthroughs.

Small wins that meant everything.

The first time he expressed a need.
The first time something “clicked.”
The moments where I could see his confidence building.

And over time…

I realized something powerful:

My son didn’t need to be “fixed.”
He needed to be understood.
He needed support in a way that worked for him.

Why I created these resources

I created this space because I remember what it felt like to be in the beginning.

Overwhelmed.
Searching for answers.
Trying to figure out how to help your child learn, communicate, and feel safe in their own world.

I wanted simple tools.
Clear guidance.
Something that actually worked without adding more stress.

So I started creating it.

What you’ll find here

Everything I create is made with intention, love, and real-life experience.

These digital books and resources are designed to:

Help children communicate their wants and needs

Support emotional expression and understanding

Encourage confidence through simple, engaging learning

Create structure and predictability (which so many children need)

Make learning feel safe—not overwhelming

Because I know firsthand…
learning looks different for every child.

From one parent to another…

If you’re in the middle of this journey right now…

I want you to know:

You’re not doing it wrong.
You’re not alone.
And you’re doing better than you think.

This path isn’t always easy…
but it is full of growth, love, and moments that will change you forever.

This is bigger than books.

This is about helping children feel seen.
Helping parents feel supported.
And creating a space where different is not only accepted…

…it’s understood and embraced.

With love, always
